6 Scarves 2021: Jan-June Recap, #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia

For an introduction to the 6 Scarves 2021 project, see this post.

For a description of my method, see this post.

Now for a review of my favorite capsule based on this lovely color palette and Mini Rex rabbit.

Here is the wardrobe so far:

Jan-Jun Garments: #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia
Jan-Jun Accessories: #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia

Let's take a look at five summer outfits incorporating our June additions. In Outfit #1, the navy floral top and navy capris from June are lightened up with the white open weave vest, pearl stud earrings, and seed bead bracelets. I'm a big fan of a stripe + floral print mix, and creating one with a top and shoes is a low-key way to do it.

This frond print blouse and green cardigan form one of those Pleasing Pairings I was talking about recently. They are quite lovely together and can be used as the basis for many outfits. In the June additions post, they were worn with the navy capri pants above in a business-casual-emphasis-on-casual outfit. Here I substituted a navy pencil skirt for a more dressed up look, though the striped flats keep it fun.

Jan-Jun Outfit #2: #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia

Outfit #3 continues the reign of the print top + navy striped ballet flat combination, this time with June's tropical bird tank. I like the blend-not-match combination with this slate blue skirt. To take the rather dressy nature of that skirt down a notch, I used the denim shirt as a jacket. I think the silver accessories are a nice combination with the very cool-toned skirt.

Outfit #4 brings June's striped jacket into play with a navy and soft blue print mix column (polka dots and crosses). That three-way print mix might be a lot (though I kind of love it!) so I kept the accessories understated.

Finally, in Outfit #5, aloe vera is the dominant color, pairing June's T and earrings with the paisley skirt from February. I had never really noticed how well a soft green coordinates with the colors of the skirt until I was creating outfits in this capsule, but I really like this combination. This multi-colored necklace and mixed metallic bracelets seem quite right to me. I am not 100% sold on the navy shoes, which might be a bit dark for the outfit although they do pick up the dark blue shade in the skirt. Perhaps a dark blue or navy headband would do the trick of tying the shoes into the outfit by adding a third dose of blue to the look (and would also be an example of the "top 'n tail" style hack that Liz at Closet Play Image posted about recently).

Jan-Jun Outfit #5: #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia

Today I'll share a few outfits of the day featuring that pretty tropical bird print tank. It's been a warm summer here in St. Paul, so in this WFH outfit from last month, I didn't even bother wearing a topper piece over the sleeveless blouse. The turquoise knit skirt is ridiculously comfortable but yet reads as a bit dressy simply because people rely on the "skirt or dress = dressed up" heuristic even when the garment is basically made from t-shirt material. I finished the outfit with a layered necklace consisting of a strand of white (real) pearls made a bit more modern with the occasional sparkly beads, a multi-strand seed bead necklace that I made, and a lariat-style gold chain and tassel necklace that was a gift from my mom. I like how that white tassel stands out against the navy background, and I'm pleased that the tassel bears a strong resemblance to both the bird feathers and the plant fronds in the top's print (since I like to geek out over those kind of details).

June Outfit with Navy Bird Tank

In this outfit from last July, I wore the top with a sandstone coral "suit" consisting of a denim skirt and classic cardigan with a 3/4 length sleeve.

July Outfit with Navy Bird Tank

In this outfit from last August, I feel like I split the difference between the other two looks by wearing the top with the sandstone coral denim skirt again but accessorizing on top with shades of teal. I just noticed that I'm wearing nude(ish)-to-me shoes in all three of these outfits; I guess that's a go-to option in the summer when I'm wearing a skirt-based outfit that has a high accent color to neutral ratio.

It's so warm today that I can't bear to envelope these bunnies in swathes of cloth or metal even digitally, so they get to go about their business in their typical furry attire. It's always a joy to see our rabbit menagerie, and I'm looking forward to meeting our new members with the introduction of July wardrobe additions!

Do you wear skirts/dresses often in the summer? What is your favorite kind of shoe to wear with them? (As you can see, my #1 is ballet flat.) Do you wear nude-to-you shoes? Have you tried Liz's "tail n' top" trick?

In my next capsule post, we will get started adding July additions to the #1 Black & Grey, Gina wardrobe.

My summer shoe has certainly changed with our location. Sure, I used to have a couple pairs of sandals, but now? NOW I have a ton of sandals because it's just way too hot to have my feet covered most days!!! OXOX Jodie

Jodie, I can imagine that's true! It's sort of like me and my boots supply that increased from 0 to at least 14 since moving from North Carolina to Minnesota.

For outfit #5 you could wear your nude-ish to you shoes if you didn’t want to wear navy shoes.

Yes, that would be a great option!
