This week we are finally closing out our recaps with the wardrobes through June. Time has gotten away from me again! But outfits in June, July, and August are all very similar weather-wise, so it's not a problem for our capsules to be a bit behind the calendar. Let's see if I can't make up some time in the weeks to come.
But first, a quick review of the Nelly color palette and mascot.
And a reminder of where our capsule stands at the end of June:
In June, we added a bunch of teal items to this wardrobe. I don't know about you, but I find the teal and burgundy elements of this wardrobe a bit disjointed. As we've seen in a hundred capsules on The Vivienne Files, there's no law that your accent colors have to be easily worn together (for example, the pink and bright golden mustard in the first wardrobe here), but personally I like having the mix-and-match-ability across accent colors. It will be interesting to see how these colors come together in warm weather outfits.
With these disparate accent colors, I highly value the (few) items that bridge teal and burgundy in this capsule. In Outfit #1, the plaid shirt (which I see worn open as a jacket with the sleeves rolled up) brings together the teal tank and burgundy jeans. I threw in the scarf as a second cover option in case it gets too warm for the plaid shirt. For many people, these jeans may feel too warm for summer (though Robot has always lived in jeans year-round, including 100+ F summers in Texas), so it could be an idea to hold on to for when summer starts transitioning to fall. I freely admit that I included the square-shaped earrings to echo the print of the shirt; I like to geek out on these little details sometimes.
Outfit #2 continues the plaid theme with these light-to-medium-weight thrifted Old Navy ankle pants. (Jodie just did a series on purchasing at clothes at non-obvious stores, starting with stylish clothes for older women at Old Navy, so I am tickled to be showing these pants today.) The pants have a variety of green-to-teal colors in them, which makes blending the multiple shades of teal in this outfit easy and cohesive. I chose this mostly gold-toned bracelet to align to the mustard-yellow stripe in the plaid.
Outfit #3 centers around this foliage print skirt that I can readily wear in all four seasons. The vibrant teal top and ballet flats give this outfit a summery vibe. I chose the same bracelet as in Outfit #2, this time to repeat the mostly-gold-with-some-silver color scheme of the palm print pendant.
Outfit #4 rounds out our Teal Roundup with a bright teal T and teal/black cardigan for a bit of that non-traditional twin set feel that I like so much. This is another skirt I wear year-round, but it clearly has a strong summer quality in its colors, print, and style. The peacock pendant has a range of teal, purple, and black tones on its feather pieces, which is an irresistible match for the skirt. As I've shown with this capsule before, I like to pair these girly floral prints with something a bit edgier to cut the sweetness of them. In the cooler weather, those harder pieces include things like black buckled ankle boots or a moto vest/jacket. For summer, my options are more limited, but I think the black studded flats do the job here.
Today's focal garment is the teal/black cardigan shown in Outfit #4. It's a piece that I've photographed more often in the spring-to-summer or summer-to-fall transition seasons than in the middle of summer so all three outfits I'm showing here feature long pants. However, any of these outfits could be modified to wear with crop pants, shorts, or a skirt.
First, in this April weekend outfit, I kept the core outfit quite basic with a teal blouse and dark skinny jeans so that the accessories could shine. I went with a black and white theme featuring graphic black and white geometric print knit flats and a scarf with Alice in Wonderland quotes and reproductions of original Tenniel illustrations from the books.
In this May work-from-home outfit, I wore yet a different teal top with the cardigan, simple black work pants, and the same geometric shows as the previous outfit. This time it's a scarf with a lively, bright bird and foliage print standing out against a black background that takes center stage. In this outfit you can really see how the marl pattern of the cardigan can function as a subtle print, making a three-print mix that is interesting but not overwhelming.
Finally, in this October outfit, dark jeans and a mint lace front T form the backdrop for a gorgeous coral and blue print scarf that doesn't match any of the other colors exactly but coordinates beautifully. Orange/coral + turquoise/aqua/teal is a high-energy, high impact complementary color combination that I just LOVE.
Kiwi and friends got off easy last time, but Nelly and company are going to have to deal with the indignities of this teal beauty bundle.
Of course none of these rabbits would tolerate being wrapped, draped, dangled, or shod for even a moment in real life! Luckily I can indulge in this whimsical bunny accessorization in this digital world of my own.
Have you ever bought an item from a store/brand that you didn't feel you were in their target audience? From thrifting, I have ended up purchasing pieces from brands I never would have expected...most famously the striped jacket from old-lady brand Alfred Dunner, but also from brands I consider more youth-oriented like Maurice's, Old Navy, and American Eagle.
In my next capsule post, we will look at the last of our Jan-June recaps: the #6 Grey & Navy, Sophia wardrobe.

I've heard that turquoise goes with absolutely everything. Sure, it may seem out of place at times, but I just love all of these example. ESPECIALLY the Old Navy pants. See? You've just proved that anyone can wear Old Navy too!! XOOX Jodie
